Genie Burns, Psy.D.
We all have our own unique paths through life; here is a short bit about mine!
I am a clinical psychologist specializing in psychological testing and child and adolescent therapy. I am a graduate of Arizona School of Professional Psychology, clinical psychology. My training has provided me with a specialization with children and adolescents. I am also a certified children's yoga teacher, with emphasis on adaptive yoga-based movement for children with special needs, illness, and physical or developmental limitations, and a certified yoga teacher at the 200 hour level. In addition, I have obtained a certificate in Ecopsychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. I am also a level one certified Kripalu Outdoor Mindful Guide (KMOG). Lastly, am currently pursuing certification to become a sport psychologist and I have a particular interest in working with injured athletes as they recover and manage the psychological aspects that accompany injury.
Prior to starting a private practice, I have had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, young adults and families within hospital outpatient services, independent practice settings, and school environments. My approach to therapy draws on over 18 years of study and experience. My primary treatment approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral theory, but I also utilize a blend of conventional and alternative therapeutic services to include Mindfulness, Play Therapy, Nature and Ecotherapy to fit the needs of each client.
I am also a wife, mother, animal lover, nature lover, Ironman and XTERRA athlete.
